Scholarships for Home Schoolers

I recently attended an event with Newt Gingrich.  He does a good job of pushing ideas and challenging voters to think about issues in new ways.  He was discussing the problems in public schools and the dropout rates when he brought up home schoolers.  He asked  how much is spent per student K-12 in the public schools (then answer is conservatively $100,000).  If home schoolers are saving taxpayers $100,000.  Not only do homeschooled students have higher SAT scores, but also they seem to have a higher degree of college-readiness.  (Educrats will fall all over themselves claiming that they get homeschoolers back in public schools and they have to “bring them up to date” — challenge them to show you the data.  It does not exist.)  So if each homeschooler who saved taxpayers money, up to the amount they saved taxpayers should be made available to them for college scholarships.  It is an incentive for home schoolers to be college-ready, and a reward for the sacrifices the parents made to educate their children.
